| Why screen when I am healthy? |
| |
| • |
Heart disease, stroke and cancer are the leading causes of death in the world |
| • |
Over half of these deaths occur in people without any warning signs - often, the first sign of a health problem is a heart attack, sudden death and stroke whilst the earliest cancer symptoms may not occur until the disease is widespread |
| • |
Earlier detection of any complications

| What state-of-the-art equipment does HealthScan Malaysia™ utilise? |
| |
At HealthScan Malaysia™, we endeavour to use the most advanced technology when screening individuals.
We have the 64-slice multi-detector CT (MDCT) scanner called the Siemens Somatom Sensation 64. It is one of the most advanced technologies in health care today, the first of its kind in South-East Asia.
Prior to the introduction of the 64-slice MDCT scanner, non-invasive (i.e. non operation required) ways of detecting heart disease and stroke relied on methods that only allowed diagnosis of the disease when it was already at an advanced stage.
The latest 64-slice MDCT Scanner available at HealthScan Malaysia™ allows these medical conditions to be detected at a VERY EARLY STAGE.
Other non-invasive diagnostic tools such as mammography, tumour markers and virtual colonoscopy are also available.

| What can the HealthScan Malaysia™ team offer using this revolutionary technology? |
| |
| • |
Use calcium scoring to survey all the vessels of the heart to give you an assessment of heart attack risk. |
| • |
Identify vulnerable deposits of atheroma (plaque)- the main cause of heart attack and stroke - in the heart and brain vessels at the earliest stages of development BEFORE they are detectable using existing methods including stress testing, nuclear imaging and Ultrasound/Doppler studies |
| • |
Perform non-invasive total body angiogram accurately as an alternative to the invasive method to assess coronary, limb and head and neck blockages, bypass grafts, stent and congenital abnormalities. |
| • |
Detect early cancer in the major organs including the brain, lungs, liver and kidneys |
| • |
Perform non-invasive Virtual colonoscopy to detect polyps and early cancer in the large bowel helping avoid the discomfort and inconvenience of endoscopic colonoscopy.
|

| Can the scan detect cancer? |
| |
The 64-slice MDCT scanner may detect abnormalities such as nodules, masses, cysts or tumors as small as 0.4mm - that's the size of a grain of sand.
If the scan detects an abnormality, it is up to you and your personal physician to decide whether you should have any further testing to see whether or not the abnormality is cancerous. The report you will receive will aid in that decision. Early detection of cancer may improve your chances of survival.

| What is a CT scan? |
| |
A CT (computed tomography) scan is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides clear and detailed images of the body's internal structures.
Thousands of X-ray images are acquired during the scan and processed by a computer that displays the corresponding images on a computer screen. These two- dimensional,
cross-sectional images are often referred to as "slices" and merged to form three and four dimensional images.
With 64 slice acquisitions per rotation, the Siemens Somatom Sensation 64 provides advanced scanning speed for HealthScan Malaysia™ procedures.

| What does a scan involve? |
| |
A CT scan involves lying on the scanner table, holding your breath and remaining still for a short interval. Depending on the chosen package, various areas can be scanned from the head to the pelvis.
A full body scan can include the heart, lungs, abdomen and
pelvis.
An abdominal scan includes the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, kidneys and spleen.
A pelvis scan includes the bladder and prostate or uterus.
All examinations included in the complete scan package may be performed individually.
Ultrasound is the preferred modality for regular screening of the abdomen and pelvis.

| I get claustrophobic and don't really want to go inside a scanner. |
| |
CT scanners are "open top" so there is no claustrophobia. It looks like a doughnut. Once you go through the hole, it is open on the other side. CT scanners are nothing like a MRI in this respect.
